I am a composer, producer, guitarist and researcher working at the intersections of cultural studies, music theory and creative technology, and also a teacher in higher education, primary schools and private lessons.

I have two decades experience writing concert works for orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists, with premieres in North America and Europe, including performances by the American Symphony Orchestra, Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Da Capo Chamber Players, and TRANSIT ensemble, among others. Recent projects have focussed on contemporary production, exploring the extended resources of microtonality in live and studio settings. This work can be heard on my EPs Tender Carpenter and Overton Road, and my microtonal concert works can be heard on recordings by Stephen Altoft and Tolgahan Çoğulu. My composition Not Silent is published by Edition Zalzal.

My research engages music cognition and perception, Queer theory, Black studies and American studies. My writings on microtonality have appeared in Resonance: the Journal of Sound and Culture and online at the British Music Collection. My writings in jazz studies—on re-composition, improvisation, genre and identity—are available in Jazz Perspectives and my doctoral thesis.

As an instrumentalist, I have performed music from a wide range of genres, historical periods, and cultural traditions. This has included blues, rock, jazz and classical guitar, renaissance lute, and fretless guitar and çümbüş, in both solo and ensemble settings, including appearances with the American Symphony Orchestra, Case Western Reserve University Collegium Musicum, CUNY Middle Eastern Music Ensemble, Cube Orchestra, and Eugene Chadbourne, among others.

I have several years experience teaching in higher education in the United States and United Kingdom. I am currently on staff at BIMM University, and have taught at the University of Bristol, Eugene Lang College (The New School), Brooklyn College (CUNY), the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Bard College. I also run workshops at the Bristol Waldorf School and Bridge Farm Bristol, teach private guitar lessons, and run community music sessions with Evolve Music.
